Mom & Dad
Hi everytone; We have arrived in Holland. Everything went beyond our expectations. We paid a little extra but this put us at the front of the line up at the airport, gave us two seats on the plane (we had not been guarenteed a seat when we got there, it was first come first served) Also it gave us access to the KLM lounge where everything was free. Food, paper, internet acces etc. Nice touch.
Everthing else net according to plan.
We found our bed & breakfast. It is very neat & clean (& much smaller than we are used to) It just very difficult trying to find the train and tram connections. Everyone is used to these types of travel so for someone who is not used to it there seem to be steps in the process that are missing (to us anyway)
Today we hope to do a canal tour, yesterday we went the Anne Frank House. It's just around the corner from ""our home"" We found a small grocery store just around the corner as well. Tomoorow (Friday) at 13:00 there is an organ concert at the Westermarkt church which is also just around the corner. (everything is just around the corner here)
Till the next update.

Talking to Tammi yesterday she asked me to post the date we would like to celebrate Dad's birthday. If we are able to leave tomorrow we would like to celebrate it the Sat. after we get home May 15. If we do not leave tomorrow it will possibly be a week later but than we won't be able to celebrate it until June 12th because we are camping on the long weekend, the next weekend is the church anniversary and the following weekend is Allen Balch's wedding.

Uncle Ron and Aunt Marcia are coming to Ontario and we will be camping with them at the Brant Conservation Area, along with as many others as would like to come, from July 9 to the 12th. It would be nice if you could join us on Sat. the 10th. Apparantly there is a large pool which according to Janice, Bethany would love. I think they are trying to make this a family reunion.

Hey Tammi, can you give me Freda's email address. I haven't heard from Carina Ploeger yet and thought I might forward the email I sent to her to Freda so maybe she can get the ball rolling. I need to get the clothes for Haiti picked up before we leave on holidays.

No more snow here either, and instead of rabbit poop its cat poop.

It was pretty nice out today and I dug up a 8'x8' patch of lawn for Becky's vegatable garden , and built a cute little lattic fence to deture the rodents.

We only have snow left where the kids piled it on the picnic table to make a snow hill!

I just checked our lawn, it is completely bare of snow. Pretty amazing because yesterday morning it was still covered more than half.

Hi Tammi

Thanks for the info. It puts thing into perspective I heard the same thing, that this year the government spent huge money on this one event but from now on the athletes are on their own.

Is everyone enjoying the spring like weather. We only have about 6 inches on snow left on the ground but we can see some grass.

Have a fun MARCH BREAK.

Canada spent a ton b/c they were the hosts which is normal. But what Canada spends to train their athletes for the Olympics (is what I meant) is way less than any other country.

"Many people are not aware of the financial hardships facing athletes in Canada, according to Nowak-Khajadourian. After spending time in Vancouver and meeting several athletes during the Games, she learned that many athletes carry hefty debt loads, and some struggle to afford basic necessities. “These athletes, after competing in the Olympic Games or in international competitions, they often find themselves in debt,” she said, “I don’t think most people know really what goes on and how little support they get from the government, but then they’re expected to come home with gold metals. It’s really difficult."

I guess I do still have some dutch blood in me. It was actually because I had just sent Lammieke the numbers and was easy to do the math. If we use the Canadian no. the Americans should have done at least 9 times better than they did, so they still suck. I am very proud to be a Canadian and yes Tammi, Canada did spend and exhorbitant amount of money on the Olympics and going forward they will continue to do so. However it does seem that by doing well we are able to create a larger presence in the world, and hopefully going forward when our Prime Minister makes speeches, he may be taken more seriously. Kind of stupid but I do think it seems to work that way.
